I'm not saying Spy is the class that least belongs in the game, but if one uses the Meet the Team videos as an indicator of what Valve intended for the class, Spy has gone by far the most awry.
Meet the Engineer shows an Engineer sitting there letting guns do his work, Meet the Medic shows Medic healing a bunch of people alongside his pocket, Meet the Sniper shows a Sniper just sitting there shooting people, but Meet the Spy; It's certainly the most entertaining Meet the Team video, though it's not at all how the class is played.
That video shows a class that DOESN'T get blown up the instant someone sees him.
So, what's the story behind Spy's gameplay design? Also, how many times has Gabe actually played TF2? His "favourite class is the Spy" but the video indicates disguising is Spy's coolest and best ability, when against competent players it only fools sentries.
Not that I would know how to make the Spy play out like he was intended to, except maybe to allow him a greater range of illusions such as fake attacking.
Is Spy a failed class design?
