Reduced explosion smoke

Credits to this thread

Just a little something I thought SPUF would be interested in seeing. Basically what this does is change an explosion effect to any other particle effect in the game. So instead of seeing the smoky explosion you normally see when shooting a rocket or a grenade, you can modify this to show the explosion effect that normally appears when a sapper explodes - ie: become near invisible. (Note: this does not affect rocket trails). Or you could go to the extreme if you really wanted to and see something like this.

Link of potential particle effects you can choose

It's quite fast and simple to modify, but I've put together a link here to make things easier. As seen in the youtube clip above, in this download you have the option of using the sapperdestroyed (blue one) or sapper_coreflash (none). Simply choose whichever one you want, copy the contents of the scripts folder to custom/custom_stuff/scripts, and test it out. I may have included surfaceproperties.txt inside the scripts folder as well - it's useful if you didn't have it already.

Some people have reported seeing this - If you have this then try removing some of the .ctx files until it works. No idea why this happens, but it could be an issue with something in your cfg file.

Unfortunately both d4mo and myself weren't able to modify the cow mangler's explosion effect, but I guess it's not a big deal seeing as no one uses it anyway. We were able to modify weapon damage, ammo count and class speeds among other things though, but only for use on a local server. Definitely worth taking a look for yourselves if interested.

Any issues let me know and I'll fix it up. I believe it works on all versions of sv_pure, although sv_pure 2 may require preloading beforehand.
