Hi
I'm guessing the answer is it's dead (the PC is about 6 years old now and hasn't been used on a regular basis for about 6 months now, as he's at University) but I figured it's worth asking to see if anyone has any suggestions.
Basically my brother's PC has been refusing to work, it's a Dell Inspiron 560 which I've spent a few hours over the past 24 trying to fix. For a while I was able to get it to turn on and log onto Windows, at which point it would freeze (and start beeping, unfortunately it wasn't say 3 beeps stop, 3 beeps, stop, it was a series of continuous beeps without pause which doesn't help me diagnose the problem!) soon after loading Google Chrome and watching a video. However it's now refusing to put anything on the screen, and, I believe, it's stopping before loading into Windows as pressing the shut down button on the PC instantly turns it off (rather than having to hold it down for several seconds).
I've not tried taking it apart and flicking the CMOS switch yet (which frankly is the only other thing I can think of if I cannot boot into Windows or see what I'm doing!), in fact, all I've really managed to do so far is try and circle the power by leaving the unplugging the power supply and confirm that the monitor is not the problem.
Suggestions?
