Not sure where to put it, so he goes...
So a few months back I downloaded some free software (can't even remember what it was now, but it wasn't a torrent or anything). Usually I'm quite on-the-ball with these things but this particular time I didn't pay much attention and just went ahead and downloaded/ok'd everything. Basically I ended up accidentally downloading and installing one of those free download manager things that come with a load of adware and God knows what else.
This Vosteran browser hijacker was one of them.
Uninstalled, deleted related registry files, did numerous scans. I still couldn't get the bugger off my system. So, I reinstalled Windows. No problem since.
HOWEVER, recently I've noticed I have *one* particular file that is infected (as shown by Malwarebytes). It's in Google Chrome. I haven't downloaded anything recently other than Steam games. Despite constant scans, the file is still there (although when I navigate to the folder location, the folder doesn't even exist). The file shows up as PUP.Optional.Vosteran.A.
Any tips?
