UV layout rules for models?

Hello everyone,



I couldn't find any info in the docs about what can / should not be done when creating the UV layout for a model to be imported into a Source game. In my case it's Portal 2:



- are overlapping UVs accepted? If yes, are they going to affect vertex lighting somehow?



- if overlapping UVs are not accepted, are UVs outside the 0-1 UV space accepted?
