[Hypothetical, very long thread] TF2's very own Escort mode starring...

Miss Pauling as the Courier!

The Setting

• Set post-MvM, during the 'Ring of Fired' timeline but in no way canon due to missing mercs andtraitorous Medics gameplay is usually never representative of what actually happens in the story. Whether it's the Mercs in BLU or RED uniforms, the opposite team will play as Robots in an official capacity, the team with Miss Pauling are known as the 'ESCORTS' while the robot team is known as the 'INTERCEPTORS or KIDNAPPERS'.

Miss Pauling, the Escort class

Distribution/Basics

• Through new UI or simply randomising the player who gets to play as her, becomes the '10th class'. Miss Pauling has 0.93x move speed, making her as slow as the Demoman. She has 125 health as the Scout/Spy/Engineer/Sniper but she gains the regen effect as a Medic; fragile but not too reliant on healing to survive.

She Shoots, she Scores

• Unlike TFC's escort, she isn't helpless! Her primary weapon the Revolver, though more specifically new revolver called the 'Derringer' as seen in Expiration Date movie. Think of it like the Soda-Popper had babies with the Ambassador and you have the base stats. Two-bullet clip, enhanced firing rate, same reloading speed. It's unique stat is that if both rounds are fired consecutively (not releasing M1 and both hit the same target), the target who was shot the first time will be mini-crit the second time and suffer bleed effects for 4 seconds, bleed effect also inherits the crit status of the second shot. The Derringer also headshots, causing a mini-crit the first time and a full crit if it meets the previous condition of landing both hits (but only if the shot actually hits the head)

• If she runs out of ammo for her Derringer, her default melee attack is simply to hit enemies with the grip of her gun, however this has standard firing speed and deals as much as the Scout's bat in this case, otherwise a sub-par melee that doesn't randomly crit. She's bound to have a handful of reloads worth of bullets including the two already inside the gun, but spamming it will cause her to lose her self-defense quite quickly.

Being Strung Along

• Her class ability is 'Assist/Interact', mainly this allows her to attach herself to a friendly player as if holding hands (though in gameplay only Pauling's hand will reach out to avoid messing with animations too much). While attached she will be stuck adjacent to her ally in a ring shape, the speed difference between her and her ally will be smack-bang between the two of them, this allows a faster class such as the Scout or Medic to take her around routes much faster at the expense of their own speed.

An actually useful Escort

• While assisting an ally, if she shoots at an enemy, if the ally also hits the target within one second, the ally's hits are treated as one crit-stage higher (Normal -> Mini-crit -> Full crit), so think of it as a very brief marked for death for the two fighting on conjunction. Pauling doesn't get crit boosting for her ally since her Derringer already has crit mechanics (also can't randomly crit!)

Friend with Benefits

• But more than that, her class ability enables her to help Engineer break sappers off his machines, warn Sniper about enemies within her field of vision while he is scoped, cloak and inherit a random disguise off the Spy...ect. I'm sure a secondary weapon to carry pick-ups to give to allies might work although I'm secretly hoping it'll be a Scout unlock some day.

Spies are still dangerous though

• Careful though, if she 'assists' an enemy Spy, the enemy Spy can instantly undisguise and capture her! Details on capturing next!

Pauling never gives up, but she will need your help!

• Pauling as a player character has health but she will never die, and I'm pretty sure she'll use some kind of grappling hook to catch herself back to a ledge on pitfalls. But if her health depletes or she does have to hook back to save herself from a fall, she'll be made 'helpless' in a way similar to Left 4 Dead.

Administering First-Aid

• The only way to bring Pauling back to her feet is to stand within a clearly marked though restrictive radius near her much like a dynamic control point. Any class can stand next to her to slowly bring her up to her feet but the Scout will do so in half the time and the Medic can do so at the same rate as a non-scout, but from a distance.

• The trick is that if one of the robot players gets to Pauling first, they will instantly pick her up and able to carry her around at a -30% movement speed penalty. The human team will need to destroy the robot player and stand by her until she can get back to her feet. Progress towards reviving her is preserved even if a human player gets pushed/killed or if robots picks her up and drop her multiple times.
