Does anyone have any opinions on cars and onboard systems?

Does anyone have any opinions regarding the amount of technology we are putting into cars?

Just read a story on wired with a large grain of salt on how a driver of a Jeep was apparently hacked and his car was killed remotely.

I wonder if things like cars, do we really need all this electronics and onboard systems? Or is it just that we want it?
